Karen and I are very sad to hear the news about Patrick. Although we have lost touch with you in recent years, we retain very fond memories of our times together when Patrick and I worked at BCSA. I remember Patrick taking a couple of us to lunch to celebrate Tiernan’s birth. We remember the sing-song party we had at your house when we lived in Shirley Croydon. I remember the many lunch times we used to go for a beer with Ted Bryant and other BCSA staff at the pub nearby. We remember his mischievous sense of Irish humour with the many jokes and stories he would tell. He and I went to Germany together to represent BSCA at some event and had a good time there. As we went our separate ways – Patrick to Imperial College and me to Bristol we kept in touch largely through the IStructE. You may remember Grace coming to our annual dinner in Bristol when I was local Chairman of the Branch here. I was very pleased and honoured that you both found the time to come. We followed Patrick’s elevation to the Vice Chancellorship at Surrey and were pleased at his success. Patrick was one of the cleverest engineers I have known. The profession and all who knew him will miss him. Karen and I send our deepest condolences at the sad time for your family. We will remember a life well lived.
