I first met Patrick at his interview for the position of ViceChancellor and Chief Executive for the University of Surrey. We worked closely together for all his eleven years in the job he loved. Throughout this time and since we were good friends. His vision and drive set out the structure for this modern University and he built it by the encouragement he gave to his talented students and brilliant research and teaching staff. He always focussed on the good news and promoted everything that was positive. Patrick never really left his University and the University will always appreciate and be grateful for his leadership.
